I paid $8.00 dollars for this coin & I would like some grading opinions. I put it at EF40. The word WE seems to have a strong W, but the E seems weaker. I contribute that to weak strike. This also seems to have a rotation, If I hold the obv. upright, the top of the 2 on the rev. seems to point to @ 7:30. Are there various varieties for this coin? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I will be happy to post more pics if needed.

Can't give an opinion about the grade without pictures. From the description it does sound like rotated dies, but just a minor rotation. And yes there are multiple varieties on this date Two Cent Piece but most are of interest only to specialists, and there aren't too many of them so as a general rule they don't bring a premium.

Theres a double date, 65/4, and clashed die varities, different 8's, 6's, and 5's in the date from what I can find in my reference books, but some of them might be outdated.

I can't tell anything without pics. From your description it sounds like a VF or better coin. That's a great deal for $8.

The E to me looks like it was Struck Through Grease and that is why it is weaker IMO. I think this coin could be mid to high EF but can't tell if that is toning or the start of corrosion from the pictures. I think you definitely got a good deal.

That's a nice coin for just $8--congrats!
Perhaps it's just dirt, or am I seeing an RPD between the date digits?
A sharper photo of the date area would help possible RPD attribution.

Great buy! Looks like the plain 5 variety (slightly less of the plain 5's were made than the more common Fancy 5), can't tell if there is any RPD without sharper/clear pics. I'd grade it VF/XF, looks to have some corrosion on the surface, quite common in the 2¢ series, but at $8.00 you got quite the deal, heck I'll double your money for it ;-)

Wow, I agree you go a good deal on this one. I found one today at a local coin shop. I think I will go back and check it out. Haven't had one in my hands in a few good years. I also miss my flying eagle.

After a little Verdi-Care the RPD shows on the right outside of the upper loop on the 8.
