One of my Christmas gifts was an attractive card picturing two Polar Bears, and containing two $2 Canadian Coins. One was labeled "First Mint Mark Coin," and the other "Final Non-Mint Mark Coin."

Can somebody explain what that means?

Thanks.

On the obverse under the queen's bust on one you will see the new RCM mintmark. It will be on all Canadian coins now. On the nickels from this year some had a "P" in that location to indicate the coin was plated. Some nickels have nothing there and some will have the new mintmark. Some of the new pennies with the mintmark are reported to be magnetic while others are not. It is an interesting year in Canada for varieties.
Rest in Peace
