I'm going to take a shot at MS64. I don't see any real hits on this coin. It might even grade higher. It's difficult to tell with all the toning. The strike looks great. It may grade at 65, but it's hard to tell with a coin like this one from pictures.

toning can hide a lot of good...or bad, but I don't see anything thats says this is not MS64 or better.

Maybe I am nuts, but I see wear on the breast and leg of liberty and on the high point of the wing. I would say AU-58? It is a tough coin due to the toning and a very strong strike. I hope you are going to tell us?

Before I reveal the grade let me show you another another half out of the same set. I know you are not suppose to post two coin in the same post but bear with me.

Yes, even perhaps a bit more. The wear I see on the reverse is the high point of the leg, not the wing. I have a feeling I am going to learn somwething here.

On the obverse the first place to look for wear is the right breast. Now for the tricky part, you got to be able to tell the different between metal lost and stacking marks. The best way to learn this is by looking at a lot of high grade Walkers. I am talking about 66 and 67's. On a Walker that has a lot of luster and no toning you can see the wear very easy because of luster breaks and metal loss on the breast.

On the reverse the first place I look for wear is the breast of the eagle. This gets hard with the later dates because of weak strikes. There is a fine line between what wear is and what is weak strike and then my pictures don't help because I'm showing you a tone Walker.

The second Walker is in a PCGS MS-63 holder and the first one is raw. The first Walker I'm going with 62-63 because I have it hand and I don't see no wear.

When I get some time in the coming week I will post some late date weakly struck S minted Walkers.

Ok DeWayne if you say so. I am better on grading circulated old type coins. How you or the grading companies can make those fine distinctions on a heavily toned coin is beyond me. Post some more and I will try and learn.
