coppercoins Pillar of the Community United States 7629 Posts	Posted 11/06/2011 10:32 am It all has to do with the amount the hub sunk into the die, the amount the die struck the coin, and the amount of polishing or die wear on the die when it struck the coin. All of these things can affect the amount of bevel left to the letters and how thick they appear on the finished coin. There were no significant changes to the reverse master hub between 1982 and 1986, so all 1984 cents were struck with essentially the same reverse design...they just appear different because of the conditions listed above.
