posted in the PM forum already but couldn't resist the temptation to show it off again here since it fits under Canadian NCLT too. Though it may be tasteless in the eyes of a true numismatist, this is my proudest purchase yet (and my last one for a long long while...) 1989 Proof Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz set in gold, silver, and platinum

Wow, that really is a nice set. Gorgeous coins. If only it had a 1oz copper maple leaf. :)

Nice, I'd like to see some more palladium in the future.

I agree, this is a beautiful set. I had the smaller one with 1/10 gold and 1/10 platinum. Couldn't afford this one...

@SilverBug: I figured that the members here would be more intrigued by nuances in a coin's design/history/minting/aging/etc as oppose to being won over by how shiny the coin is like me :P Nice collection you've got there too! Hope you've got an 1oz gold maple under that single box as oppose to silver :) Even with the coins aside, the RCM don't make cases like these anymore. It'd be neat if there were copper and proof paladium coins (better yet, one for every element http://www.elementsales.com/ecoins.htm), but I'm happy and broke enough as it is. Will have to sell my fractional proof sets and a heck of lot of other coins to be able to keep this set.

it's interesting that RCM only mint proof maple leafs ONCE, which makes these coins more valuable. the box is better than any of the case RCM made recently, even the COA has gold/silver color. I think they put a lot of effects into these coins back then, and then they switched their interest into color and crystal coins... update

Nice pictures. Those are nice coins and nicely done... That is some nice detail and shows nicely. They don't make them like that anymore... too bad.

Can you guys imagine how expensive and so beautiful it would be if the Mint releases a seven+ coin Maple set. All 1 Oz. There is no way I could ever afford it, but the photos alone would be breath taking.
1oz Platinum, Palladium, Gold, Silver, Copper, Nickel, Zinc, etc
As far as I know, they have never made a Copper, Nickel or Zinc maple leaf, but they do use these metals today or have used these metals in the past.
The idea is to make a sort of history set with all the metals they have ever used.

jpaiva83,
I second that idea, add would also add Titanium, Niobium and aluminium if possible.

Very nice collection SilverBug! i owned the entire 1989 PF set (save or the Pt and Au 4 coin sets) at one time or another, but can't justify holding on to them all now that I've got the representative 1oz variety set. Not to say that the reverse proof finish the RCM is using/abusing for the later commemorative privy marked maples are not beautiful in their own right, the straight up proof finish really is something though. It just makes sense to have the mirror finish on the flat background. (image from my over-priced ebay listings) I'm not sure about the other metals though. It's perfect enough as it is; a bright yellow, bright gray, and silvery... silver. Adding other shades of gray to the mix with zinc and palladium would crowd the set. For palladium there is already the 4 seasons big-bear small-bear constellation set to drool over.

Quote: I second that idea, add would also add Titanium, Niobium and aluminium if possible. imagine how big the aluminium 1oz coin will be. I have an aluminium medal the size of a silver maple leaf, it only weights 5g don't forget rhodium 1oz coin, then we all broke

@ SilverBug, thats one thing that would need to be answered.
Would we want all the coins to be the same size meaning each coin would be a different weight based on the metal density or would the coins all being 1oz be better? This would make the aluminum coin "huge".
A compromise would be to make each coin the same width, but adjust the thickness of the coin to keep them all at 1oz. Some coins would end up being very thin, others very thick.
