Here's an excellent deal on a nice objective for coins. The Nikon MPlan 5 is a step up from the M5 primarily in that it has a longer working distance due to the 210mm extension rather than the normal 160mm of the M5. I can't vouch for seller or condition, but if all works out it's quite a nice objective for a great price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/143433287765

Been a while since I posted an El-Cheapo, but this one really deserves the attention. I will also cross-post it to the <$400 setup, since it fills a niche there in place of the recommended Nikon M5, which is often hard to find. This one actually might be a bit better for coins due to the longer working distance, though the M5 is tough to beat for image quality. This M5 LWD objective is probably of Chinese origin, but one of the best 4x objectives I own was made in China, so I am origin-agnostic: https://www.ebay.com/itm/LWD-5X-M-5...174231918263At $27.50, you really can't go wrong with this one.

no problem rocky, but I am worried about the accuracy of the auction description. They describe a "float" lens with variable magnification from 0.4 to 0.65, but the picture is of a fixed mag lens with 2x one way and 0.5x the other. Do you have any other info on the lens/seller?

Did you buy the same lens? It's an excellent lens, optimized for 0.5x (great for coins) one direction, and 2x (great for detail shots) the other direction. I have a similar one optimized for 3x and 0.33x, and it is one of the sharpest lenses I own.

I've been tinkering around with some of the lenses mentioned in previous posts (El Nikkor 75mm, el Omegar 75mm-from Japan), I was struggling filling the sensor (Canon Rebel XS, Vivtar T- Universal Bellows, no Focusing Helicoid) with all coins above nickel size and decided I needed a 135mm enlarger lens and found this off brand JML 135mm 4.5 w/39mm threads. Seller had sold several of these lenses so I made an offer and now I own it. While waiting for the JML lens to arrive ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/2724381286...SR9727LW7YQ) I finally figured out how to fit all coins into my camera sensor. Here are a few pics of the new lens

Looks good but a bit fuzzy. What is your aperture setting on the lens? I also prefer black or grey backgrounds rather than white, but some folks like white. I'm surprised at the way the ringlight illuminated the dime, very nice shadow detail, which is not common for ringlights. Must be that it is small in diameter.

I don't remember the setting for the SBA, probably f8, the rev of the SBA is fuzzy must have forgotten to adjust focus on that coin. The Merc. looks okay to me I only posted it because of its toning, that little ring light seems work well with colorful coins and typical proofs (spotty, etc. which haven't turned out well with my Canon macro lens) Haven't tried really nice proofs, or slabbed yet . I'll test the ring light on my proof Franklins soon and see how well they turn out. Thanks, Mike

I think I've figured out what may be contributing to the "fuzzy" images. I noticed my bellows drifting down a little before I get it locked in and my photo editing software all of a sudden is beginning to degrade my photo's during the export process to the HD file.

I figured it was something like that. Always review the photo carefully before publishing, otherwise you don't know what you're putting out there.

That's a great deal for the El-Omegar. It's a nice lens and works perfectly for coins. Amazing the kind of deals that can still be had.
