Hello! I bought a 1880-O Morgan dollar from the coin shop about 5 years ago, after going through my coins last night I noticed the mint mark "O" was smaller then usual and looked like it was over laped, I checked the books and internet but cant seem to find out what it is, all info is greatly appreciated! 1880-O-Morgan--Small-O-Over-O?

In the Morgan series there are a lot of minor 'errors' and varieties. Most can be found listed in the VAM book and are of little to no added value. Yours probably exhibits some minor Machine Doubling.

I hope this helps...

Have a look on the obverse of this coin, for rust pitting especially around the 18 of the date and RIB in PLURIBUS. The mint mark appearance and location is similar to that of VAM-7, a rather interesting and notable variety for this year/mint.

Date doubling abounds with Morgans, both die doubling and Machine Doubling. I don't recall a 97/97 off the top of my head.
