Im planning to buy Ottoman 100 Kurush gold coin 1293/1 with the Toughra of Sultan Murad V but when I checked the pictures it seems there are fake coins of that type although it suppose to be rare with about 7,700 mintage.
here are some pictures that describe the difference:

Ottoman-Gold-100-Kurush-Murad-V---Which-One-Is-The-Fake-One?

as shown in the pictures there are difference in the edge, in the first coin the Toughra is almost stick to the crescent while the other coin there is a space between the Toughra and the crescent and so many difference in details.

I hope there is an Ottoman coin expert to explain the differences and give us an idea about which coin it the real one.

The edge in the top coin is very crude, especially on the obverse, compared to the images of KM# 715 in the catalogues. See the NGC page for an example. On that basis, the top pic is a replica, the bottom may be genuine.

The other explanation is that the top one could be a smaller denomination, like a 25 kurush.

I'm no expert, so no hope there.

I also vote for #1 being imitation/fake. There's a few thing I noticed.

1. Notice the dentils on both coins. On #1 they are cruder and more widely spaced. I'm under the impression dentils often give counterfeiters trouble.

2. Notice the leaves. On #2 they seem to have more texture, requiring more skill / better tools than #1.

3. The calligraphy on #2 is also finer, especially noticable on the date and the middle of the toughra.

I spent a day in the Grand Bazaar in Islambul, way back in 1970.
It is possible to buy almost any fake collectible in that place!
Pens, watches, clocks, coins, clothes, cut stones, jewelry, rare books, paintings, electronic equipment, cameras, you name it.

Some of the silver and gold coins have a greater purity than the originals. In some cases, I would prefer to buy the fake provided it was sold as a fake, and provided I knew the price was right, (but I didn't). Everything has to be negotiated and bargained for.

I visited the place with the intention of NOT buying anything, because I was very strongly warned about the prevalence of fakes.

The only thing I did buy on that visit was a 14ct. gold Turkish puzzle ring, and I suspect even that may have been of gold plated 9ct gold.
