Can you help me authenticate this 1822 large cent?
What grade would you give it in your opinion? Any help would be much appreciated.

It's real but this piece needs to be looked at in hand by a copper specialist, or better pictures need to be posted. I keep going over and over this and I can't tell if it is N-8, N-11, or N-13. N-8 is scarce and N-13 is rare. N-11 is common but I am pretty sure it is NOT N-11.

That's a beauty! It's pretty rare for a 1822 LC to be in that nice of a condition!

So I had someone who specializes in early coppers take a look at this. It is an N3 R2 variety.

Ok what just carl is referring to is the Newscomb varieties for Lrge cents. There is also sheldon varieties and many others. I posted a link below that is a small read which will guide one to books about the difference.

I hope this helps.

Nice list of books but I was asking what those N numbers mean. Still don't know and just starting collecting Large Cents so would like to know. Odd nothing in the Glossary at left about that either.
As to the grade of that coin, I too would say about EF-40+ to almost AU. Really nice details for a coin that old.
