I would like to place my silver roosevelt set in a plastic coin holder that screws down. What do you all use? Capital plastic coin holders are around 50 bucks any better alternatives?

You can find the capital plastic ones on ebay for much much cheaper, gently used, from time to time. That's where I got all of mine and they all look brand new. I have probably around ten of them. The only thing I could recommend is switching to metal screws and posts.

I first started using Capital Plastics holders in the mid 1960's. They are made using the highest quality products, the coins stored in them have been preserved perfectly. They are expensive, yes, but I believe the quality is worth it. The idea of shopping ebay for used holders can save you a lot of money.

The folks at Capital can also make custom holders but you have to want it very badly. I sprung for a custom Large Cent holder some years ago.

I still have some of those holders from 1963.

I pick any screw lock acrylic coin cases I need singularly, for 50 cents each. My local friendly coin dealer has them, from broken proof sets. Always available, in most sizes. Most of them have come from British Royal Mint proof sets. Royal Australian Mint proof capsules are not suitable, they are welded together.

If not available in the U.S., try British dealers via the 'Net. Perhaps some advice from your local dealer with a 'phone call to him, may help with identification of a suitable British dealer, or an American dealer who moves a lot of British stock, perhaps based in New York?

Sorry, I am a little 'off beam', but may leave this post here, anyway, if it is of some use to those who maybe interested.

Actually, I have custom made a coin holder, out of 1/8" thick plate aluminium, and lined it with black velvet material, for six cased gold proof coins. The whole lot was custom fitted into a metal proof case that was originally made for a different proof set. The velvet covered metal proof case also came cheaply from the coin dealer.

Quite a lot of work, but worth it, considering the value of the coins.
