Although a relatively common variety in comparison to other CWT's, these Monitor tokens are far fewer in number than say 1909-S VDB's or 1916-D dimes. The ironclad history, a ship pictorial, enhances the popularity of these pieces and drive the price above what other CWT's of comparable "rarity" now fetch. Whereas the typical CWT R-1's are trading in the $15-$20 range in VF-XF condition, the common Monitor pieces are commanding two to three times that amount. While there are probably folks who would pay $25 for the subject token, the damage is so severe that most CWT collectors would be hard-pressed to pay much more than $10 for this one ... Its value lies more in the history than in the condition.
