My father used to work in Saudi Arabia. He gave me this gold coin many years ago.

Any idea what it is?

It's a jeweller's copy of a Saudi Arabian "guinea" from the 1950s, struck to be equivalent to a British gold sovereign. Original coins look like this. You can tell this one is a jeweller's copy because of the small jeweller's marks above the right-hand-side palm tree on the left picture: "M22M" with the numeral "2" in Arabic. "22" means 22k gold, the same fineness as the genuine coin.

Here's another replica with a similar mark above the left-hand-side palm tree.

It will still be worth gold content, but it is not an official government-issued coin.

Wow. I just learned a bunch about that coin. I've always liked quarter oz gold coins. Something about that size that's appealing.

Of course, I like the half oz, too. Oh, and the 1 oz.

Heck, a 1 kilo bar would be cool.
