I could have swore I read that they only did the "set labels for HSN and the other Home shopping channels and were not offering the "set" labels to the general public. There is no way ANACS is going to put "set" on a label when they do not get them sealed, because the 3 coins can come from anywhere. They may label the 2 coins as from the set (which I doubt) but I really do not think all coins would come back as part of the set when there is no guarantee they are from that set since they do not accept sealed sets. The Home Shopping places are the only ones that got the 25th ann. set labels that I know of and it was a special thing for those customers

Quote: Buying someone else's PCGS submission if fine. Paying close to $1000 to get a box of 5 sets PCGS graded yourself is another thing. In most cases I would Agree, In this case I had planned on just buying a set of 70' but at $3000 I can certify my own I spent $510 for 3 sets with first strike even if they all came back 69 which I doubt, that is $3600 for a $1400 investment

Quote: Since the slabs fit into the nice blue Mint case, this would be okay. Square peg in a round hole?

Quote: Square peg in a round hole? they are talking about you can take the insert out that holds the 5 coins and 5 slabs will fit in the case without the insert

I had not heard that. Thanks!
My two unopened sets are ultimately intended for my children upon my demise (unless I spend them first :-). To differentiate these coins from others of lesser value and decrease the likelihood they would be sold for bullion, having them slabbed is worthy of consideration. Should make it easier for them to sell. Never slabbed a coin before (besides, "slabbed" sounds like an insult :-).
Speaking of insults, this first strike designation costing another $18 is absurd and devalues our hobby, not to mention the ridiculous OGP return fee (recently raised?). PCGS can take a hike. Simple greed in play here and their brand is tarnished in my book. Where's the outrage?! Of course NGC is an option.
Or, I could open them. Enjoy them. Leave a note in my will explaining their value and hope they act accordingly.
I think I've just decided!

Quote: In my opinion PCGS is the best route to maximize profit, unfortunately even the extra $90 a set for First Strike.
I believe I want to get them slabbed, the fact that these " other 3 Eagles" can/could come from anywhere, will just not be good for any potential future sale that I may or may not have to do even on the Set that I want to "keep" as well. Times are tough....but they could be or might be A LOT tougher in the future too. So......gotta get em' slabbed, I feel. So, if I did join PCGS, (which seems to be the best so far in everyones opinion) when I send in the box, is there a form they'll send me to include with the box ? Do I seperately send an envelope containing the certification fees and the info that I want the OGP's to be sent back ? How do they get all of this information " from" me ? I like the idea of "FS" designation for maximum value now and/or in the future, but how do I know that I can get that on " my" Sets ? You just ask for it....then pay for it and they'll give that to you ? ...... daviscfadI may take you up on your kind offer there.......I'm not clear on what the details would be on something like that either.....but for now, I'm still gathering information and deciding what I ought to do.....

I just joined PCGS, by the way......on the "Silver" level for $49.00.Where do I put this "form" (and info about wanting my OGP's back) once it's filled out and I print it off ? Tape it onto the box ? ..... Mail it separately from the box ? .... Or is this all automatically done electronically ? ...

Don't forget to look up the coin numbers for EACH of the coins and include this on the form. FS have different numbers BTW and FS cannot be done on an online form..you have to print out the blank form and write in the 5 coins and numbers, request packaging be returned ($20 for 2 sets)..add the grading fee, FS fee, shipping fee, handling fee.
I always found that to be a pain...NGC just needs the coins listed and list any special request
Put the form in an envelope, pack it with the box in a box (or wrap with craft paper like I did...works great). Send it off and wait....
Good luck....

EagleFoot,if you are not going to put the mint box in a larger box you should at least wrap it in heavy paper for shipment to the TPG. If you send it as it arrived from the mint you risk having the seal damaged in transit and possibly losing the labeling you desire. With all of the publicity this set has had, the FS and ER designations may nor carry the kind of premiums that they have on previous coins. Even the normally less informed buyers are getting information about this set that is telling them that those labels are probably not worth paying for this time because all of the sets were qualified to get them when they left the mint. I would like to see an ANACS set that includes the words "25th anniversary set" on any but the two unique coins. They do it for their contract customers because those people do deliver sealed mint boxes. They are just begging to be sued if they attach that label to coins that they have no way of knowing the provenance of. If you see ANACS coins submitted without mint packaging please post a link to them so we can all see what they are really doing. I cannot imagine their lawyer telling them that it is perfectly OK to do such a thing. I would think that if they actually do it that PCGS and NGC will attack them in the media and/or in court.

I'm going to try and get this sent off today. Did you guys all pay the extra money for the "First Strike" designation ?I'm "Back & forth" on this...... Once my two Sets come back "slabbed", I'm going to have to sell one of them fairly soon. If it will likely command more money in the future, for First Strike...I should.....if it won't, like Clair warns of the possibility....then I don't want to. Not sure what to do with this part. What to do ? ....

After VERY much trouble yesterday......I finally got my two Sets sent off to PCGS ! The total cost of this whole thing is surprising .... What "should" it have cost me in total to send these two sets to them ?Anybody else send two sets to them ? Including the "FS" designation, what did you pay ? I'm wondering if I did the form incorrectly or something. The total cost here is approaching what I paid for the Sets ! ....

$14 (grading fee) + $18 (FS)= $32 x 10 (2 sets)= $320 + $8 (handling) + $20 (return of packaging = $348 + shipping both ways....

Thanks Foxwoods....that's about on par with what I paid then....sheesh ! ...... Plus the $50.00 sign up fee for joining PCGS And $6.00 bucks for some "paper tape" for the registered mail pacakge. And about $6.00 for the box from a UPS store. I hope the one set I'll have available for sale, will make all of this worthwhile....... Now just hoping for a miracle with ALL 10 coins being MS/PR 70's on the way back to me in about a month or so ! ........ LoL Ha HaBut since, that probably won't happen.....I'll be curious to watch the selling prices of PCGS MS/PR 69 sets........and hoping that "the peak" is yet to be with these slabbed ones. Since most haven't got theirs back from grading....the peak for those "shouldn't" have happened yet correct ? And "long term" value is still an unknowable factor I assume too.
