I've read at a couple of sources that the Uncirculated Medal of Honor dollar isn't doing as well as they'd hoped. A Texas coin wholesaler bought about 1900 of them- which tells me that perhaps some people might be hoarding them for future gain. Did anybody pick this coin up? I know it's ugly, but it might be a sleeper hit.
I also just saw the artwork for the 2012 Infantry Commemorative. Enough with the army coins.

I'm assuming sleeper doesn't mean a enemy spy just sitting around waiting to attack!

My wife just bought it as a Christmas gift for me. Although it isn't the most beautiful design it aligns with one of my themes, which is only commemorative coins that I buy and add to my collection are military related. I took a look at previous commemorative coins and decided I didn't like the majority of them, so I wouldn't buy each one that came out. At any rate, yes, according to the sales statistics from the mint only about 40,000 unciculated dollars have been sold. There's only a few weeks left to get them and I don't see that number rising much. With such low sales figures the coin may actually shoot up in value down the road.

CC99999 I love the armed forces coins, I say keep em coming, IMO they're the most moving pcs we've seen from the US Mint in a while. I feel they at least stir an emotion in their viewers. We've become so diluted from fear of upsetting the wrong people, for fear they will sue. Our coinage has lost a large part of its soul. So when I see a soldier carrying an injured soldier, through what looks like hell, It lets me know were not so far gone we can't commemorate the important people still putting their lives on the line. I love these coins and everything they stand for. Please keep them coming! Its way to often people become so comfortable in their own life, they forget about the people who are out their everyday, fighting for that person's very freedom, to remain that way. The very least we could do for these brave men and women is honor them with a couple memorable coinage. I'm sorry but to say enough with the army coins already seems wrong!

It would be interesting to see how well the UNC coins do in the future. I personally think they are beautiful coins and ordered 4 Proof and 2 gold of the MoH coins. I also ordered 2 of the Army proof coins and like to see all the branches of service represented. Army and Marines have one, bring on the Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard. :D

As a army vet, I find the army coins a little bit too propaganda-ishy with the "army values" slogans on the reverse. The gold coins look beautiful- but for me, these soldier coins just look silly.

I hope your right and the MoH is a sleeper. I have my UNC. But then I am putting a complete set of modern commemorative dollars together .... still need 18 of them. Of course I would like to have one for the Air Force. I spent 20 years 1 month and 18 days with them ... Just for fun here is a pic of me on a summer vacation the Air Force set me on ...many years ago. In the middle of the Saudi Arabian desert.

Awesome photo! Thanks for your service... and folks, please do not take my criticism of the artwork as a criticism of the subject.

It comes down to eye appeal in coins. If the design doesn't grab the eye, the coin won't be a big seller. Presidential dollars/arcade tokens are Exhibit A.

I have been buying commemorative dollars for a while now. In my experience the low mintage ones will hold their value or go up in value. No matter what the design is.
The MoH coin may not be a great design .. but it is much better than some. Also IMO, these coins look much better in hand then in pictures.

I agree, I actually favor the Silver HoH coin design over the gold one. The pictures for the coins don't do it justice.
