Yes that is a same but the only good thing is that the reverse is still there if someone wants to fill a hole in there collection but the obverse will always be a mystery now.

What happened to the obverse? Did they really sand it down and carve that junk into it?

I'm shocked he's asking $850 for it. I mean...its 1/2 of a coin...grade is F0 :)...

Beyond key date...some people would put it in the top 5 Canadian coins of all time...

I actually have two examples...similar condition reverse...yours only for $10,000 in EF and $12,500 in EF45 ;)

Seems to me to be a good reason, as any, to take the individual who did this back 'o the barn and apply a little tar and feathers.

It's quite a piece and I should think easily worth what he's asking. There are love token collectors out there who are also avid coin collectors. This particular item should interest them. The date's rare and the artisanship impressive.

She:"That's all my love is worth, ten cents?"
"What's that bulge in your pocket?"
"Is that a gold coin? Now there's something with real lasting value"

Their descendants are stamp collectors

You guys have to recall this was just a ten cent piece when this was done to it, worth ten cents. The only thing giving it a value higher than it's silver content even were it whole is some poor buggers who like round shiny things with characteristics that differ mildly from the normal shiny round things.

If the giver got a kiss out of the giftee it was likely money well spent at the time.
