I wonder how many sharp eyed forum ebay hounds caught notice of this incredible run: http://www.ebay.com/csc/ewhitner/m....l1581&_pgn=1It's all over now but the shouting (and the pouting if your bids were sniped). How often do you see a batch of 100 raw high grade type coins offered up in a string of ebay listings with great photos and no reserves? Maybe never again? Here's what the seller told me: Quote: "I'm glad you like the collection - it's part of an estate that was stumbled upon when the executor of the will found it in a box under a bed. I was awestruck when I saw him open envelope after envelope with all this great stuff." Now it remains to be seen how many of those awesome bust halves are going to show up in Moe's new thread!

The best thing we found under a bed was an antique potty with a wooden seat in a 19th century house we bought. The potty was cleaner than the toilets in the bathrooms... I won't go into any more details though.

The best thing I have ever found under a bed was an unopened 1/2 pint of Old Grandad.

wow what a nice string of coins. I love the 1803 dollar not to mention most of all of them. Very nice find for the seller.

I am stunned. Quite a few conditions were undergraded as well.

Wow... That Pilgrim was gorgeous and only went for $61... graded as AU... bet it would TPG for at least MS64. Edit:Doh! It did say "UNC"... I don't know why I thought it said "AU". ,E-vJDg~~60_12.jpg) ,FBjmD!~~60_12.jpg)

Wow... Makes you wonder how long it took the deceased to amass a collection like that. In case anyone is curious, that lot sold for $80,661 rounded down to the nearest dollar. Not bad for a box under the bed.

My question is, did anyone here know about this, anyone bid? That is truly an exceptional collection and variety. I too am wondering why it wasn't at an auction house. Expanding the images on many of them, most look under-graded to me, particularly the Seated Liberty dollars. I guess in a way I'm glad I didn't see this, it would have made for a VERY light Christmas here, LOL. This looks like a collection that ALL of us here would have taken part on.

I agree about the general under-grading of many of those coins; that is soooo atypical of most ebay listings! As to why he used this venue, it's quite possible the seller had no knowledge of Heritage et al., or just chose ebay for the convenience and quick dispersal. I wonder how many purchases were made with the specific intent of certifying, slabbing, and re-selling. I managed to win a few of those listings. It seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, especially at my age with not all that much lifetime remaining. The sniping was just horrendously tough to compete with though. My 7070 is going to look a lot different.. am very eager to see my successes 'in-hand'. Anyone else in the winners' circle, please feel free to use this thread to share new images of your prize(s).

I hope this is a real deal and those that bid and won items get them, I see the seller has only 2 items sold in the past several years according to feedback they were both concert tickets. Love to hear more, the coins look great, I would've bid if I had seen them. Amazing lot that should have gone to Heritage, Stacks, Bowers, etc, for the original owners to make the most $$$. That being said I found out my Uncle was selling off coins from another realitive on ebay for them. I finally convinced him to send me all the Morgan dollars he had left, most were great Top 100 VAMs and higher grade XF-AU and better, he was selling them for $25.00 each at a local coin shop, I believe the lowest amount I sent him back was $75.00 for one dollar most were in the $200-500 range, he was pretty mad at the local Indiana shop that had been buying them from him. I looked into them found out they are not ANA members, and have a few black marks against them at the BBB. It really burns me up to see unethical dealers taking advantage of people. Off my soapbox now... Hope any CCF'ers that bid and won these coins turn out great for them! What a great set of coins.
