Hi, I recently aquired these two morgans and would like to hear what some of you more experienced coin graders think. Also, I would love to know if you think either of them are worth sending in to PCGS.

1921 D - Currently in SGS holder (Not saying grade, don't want bias)

Grade-My-Morgans!

Grade-My-Morgans!

1889 P - Has it been cleaned? and what do you think it would grade? The mint luster is more apparent in real life.

Grade-My-Morgans!

Grade-My-Morgans!

Thanks for all of your input

On your 1921-D I'd probably go with a MS-62 that would not be worth the grading costs to have it slabbed. It does have some die cracks on the reverse and may be one of the many VAM's that this year class is famous for. On the 1889-P, I see XF/AU cleaned and definitely not worth the $30+ in costs to have it slabbed.

I was gonna say MS-61 on the 1921. I also would not send it to a TPG. It's too common a date.

I'm having trouble seeing the wear on the 2nd coin. I'm thinking high AU or MS. It looks polished, though.

I can't say for sure if there is no wear on the 1921-d but it looks like it is at least AU-58 if not MS. I think the 1889 is AU details/cleaned.

I see MS64 on the 1921 and AU58 on the 1889.

Nice!

I think the 1921 is a solid MS-63. The 1889 looks to be about AU-55 possibly cleaned.

After doing a little research, SGS seems pretty sketchy. Oh well, I picked this coin up for $50. Not sure exactly how you see AU or MS61 in that? I have to agree with those saying MS 63 or even 64 on a good day

Thanks for your input nonetheless!

IMO that 21 is nowhere near any of the 66's in pcgs or anacs dollars I have seen. It might grade ms-63 but not worth certifing. Yes the other one looks cleaned the reverse has up strokes on both side of the eagle. It might be on the holder but looks like maybe a wiping of sort.
