Hi guys
Does anyone use a USB Microscope for coins or even stamps...? If so, does it work good and is it worth the money...?

I just recently bought one and I absolutely hated it ... but after f-ing around with it during the last month, I've now kinda gotten used to it, so I think it's all gonna be good in the end (getting the "lighting" correct is definitely a bit tricky) ... NOTE => but there are some people on this site that claim their standard digital cameras work as well or better than the USB cameras ... so perhaps it is merely the amount of effort that you pour into taking the photos? That probably didn't help you out? ... but it's all I got!

Thanks stevex6
I guess anything that helps is a blessing...I am going to try it....I figure with a magnifier glass, a scanner and this, should do the trick.

I bought a cheap one off ebay and didn't like it. Then I bought one from Lighthouse http://www.lighthouse.us/epages/lig...Products/DM1 and really like it. I can import directly into Adobe Photoshop with it. I did make a shadow box out of flourescent light covers the 2' x 4' kind that sits over top of the micrscope and keeps the direct light from hitting the coins (a diffuser) and this seems to work very good.

I also built a stand that I mount the microscope to and can raise and lower the microscope for different size coins. I see on the web site that you can buy them now.

I use the same , I'm happy with the results. Think I will get the stand for it though.

OK guys Everyone seems to agree that it is a good tool, but does it do a better job than a good scanner...My pic below is of a Canadian 1974 silver dollar date....It is quite good, but is it better with a scope. Please say yes (ha,ha).

That's what I mean stevex6. Of course a scope would cut down on eye strain.

I got a Digital Blue not bad for close ups but can't get the whole image in and the lighting is not good, don't recomend unless I am missing something.

There are many threads here on this. From what I have gathered, it seems to be that you get what you pay for, and Dino performs well.
