Currently an E-bay seller/dealer has a nice I.C.C.S. 1946 half dollar listed on E-bay. The I.C.C.S. Certificate does not state anything, however, the scan in the auction of the reverse appears to be the design in 6 variety. The E-bay auction # is: 200681797761, can someone else take a peak at this coin for a second opinion before I make the purchase?

Glenn

Darn, I wish ICCS would include that info. To me it looks like a possible hoof through 6 design.

There is definitely a die-chip in the 6, but this does not look like the hoof through 6 variety as that would require a double die-chip plus a die crack.

There are at least four different 'die-chip in the six' that look similar.... three of which were listed by Zoell.

I think for ICCS to lable the coin it has to be identicle to the one in the Charlton Coin Book.
This is mine but no mention on the certificate

Here's the ebay coin, plus a pic I pulled from JandM.
It sure resembles the "design in 6" in my Charest.

Papeldog.... This is an intermediate step before the full blown design in 6 which has a second die-chip in the 6. See the pictures at the Calgary Coin Gallery website at

Thank you for the link to the above web site (Calgary Coin) pginrh, I was trying to find out a little more about the coin I have and this answered all my questions on this piece. I kind of thought that it was a build up to the major error but I didn't know where it fit in.
