this has probably been asked before & it may be a dumb question : but what excactly is being referred to in bid & ask price?
i know the gray sheet is a dealer newsletter (for dealer prices) but I see bid/ask prices talked about here alot....never understood it though
thanks, T J

Whenever something is sold there is the price that the seller wishes to attain which is the asking price and the price which the buyer wants to receive called the bid. The price of the coin (or stock, stamp, 500 ton lot of corn, ect) should generally be somewhere between the two. If you ever buy or sell stocks, the quoted price is the median between the bid and the ask. Whenever the price moves from the median, the bid and the ask generally move accordingly as well. -XoG

Greysheet prices are supposed to represent the highest buying offers and lowest selling offers from large dealers for properly graded coins. This is why Greysheet prices are almost invariably higher than Bluesheet prices for slobbed coins.

Don't worry about "dumb newbie questions". You can take it from me that no one here came to coin collecting already knowing everything. Also there are probably several more people on here who have been wondering the same thing but were afraid to ask who have now learned from your question.

Well said, Conder. I guarantee that there are more people who learned something from this thread than there are posted responses to it.

Conder101 & jbuck,
thanks.i appreciate the advice.
i tend to do alot more reading than posting & I try to search first before I do ask questions. the reason : I know people get tired of answering the same questions over and over.
everybody here has given me alot of help when I do ask questions and I really appreciate it.
thanks again, T J
