Yes, the hubbub of the 25th Anniversary set provided a profit for those that were lucky enough to get an order number and delivered to their doorstep.
Along those same lines...what do YOU do with any profits from your numismatic finds that you sell/trade?
Recently purchased a beautiful 1916 Mercury FSB that was blast white. Paid 44.xx and sold for 65 at the coin club. I gave my wife $20. This coin was MS64 easy and probably a 65.
I am so close to completing my Lincoln Wheat collection in 63 BN/RB to 67 Red. I am missing the 09 S VDB and the 14D is only an XF. I have been concentrating on finishing this set with the best that I can find AND afford. Does not matter to me if the coins are in slabs or not...just want "no problem" coins in my set.
So, in January, I will be selling the extra, nice Lincolns that have found their way to me, among some other items. You can be assured of one thing, they will be listed on this site.

Numismatic items are an inefficient way of wasting money. Old cars are the most efficient way of wasting money that I know of!

As my collecting field is so wide (world coins) I can easily find items below face value and getting profit when selling duplicates off. I always invest that profit back to coins

I reiterate, What profits? If I sell a coin for more than I paid then the "profit" goes to future purchases. So far, I do not seem to have come out ahead! But, my collection is always expanding and upgrading. Any profit will maybe be realised by my heirs. Unless, of course, I get a chance to do that myself before I pop off. But, then I have to pick the time so I can spend the return first. Starting to get into the "too difficult" category. Jeff PS. I had to add an edit to mention that I always seem to be tipping money into the expanding and upgrading scenario.

I usually sell coins to buy higher value coins or sometimes I sell individual coins that don't rhyme with my collection to buy some hole fillers or may be upgrade ...... simply I reinvest again in coins

I don't see much profit either due to dumping it back into other coins.

"...sold for 65 at the coin club. I gave my wife $20."
I read it twice and then a third time but I'm still confused. :-)

Never sold a coin yet is that bad! Same with me. I've given coins away, gave away 2x2 flips, gave away Folders and Albums, plastic coin tubes, etc. but so far never sold anything Numismatical. So acloco, do you mean you've got the 22 plain, 55 & 72 & 95 Double Dies in MS grades? 09S too? All 60's, 70's, 82's and all in MS Red Grades? Congradulations on that set.

Due to the economy and my unemployment I have sold over $8,000 of coins from my collection this year. Many were gold coins I had started to purchase in 2006 so they were all at least double their purchase price, but now I'm down to coins I don't really want to sell. I have paid off my vehicle and I'm current on my mortgage even tho I'm $30,000 under water on it. The house seems like a lost cause and I am tempted to just walk away from it.

I have never sold a coin, so I could not tell you. Best I can offer is that I traded some roll-found silver half dollars in for some Franklin half dollars to fill some holes.
