Hello. Got this 1976 Half a few months ago online. After I rec'd it, I took it to a Coin shop for identification. The owner told me it was a Man Made Coin. Weighs 11.16 grams.

Please let me know what you think it is. I've searched all over and can't find an answer. Thanks.

The obverse looks like it got an acid bath.
The reverse either that's where it was sitting in the acid bath or the remains of how it was mounted to a belt buckle

Interesting theory. That never crossed my mind. I guess anything is possible, huh? Thank you.

It is a genuine coin that has suffered from chemical erosion along with a lump of foreign material(solder?) on the reverse. It is quite possible that the chemical erosion stems from an attempt to remove the material on the reverse.

Thank you all. I didn't pay a lot for it and will keep it close as a reminder to do more homework before purchasing.

I can see why they said it could be an MMC, as the pitting on the obverse looks like the texture a poorly blasted sand casting.

Whatever the cause, it makes Kennedy look like Eugene from Pay it Forward.
