P91, I'm pretty new as well, and the first two books I bought were the RedBook and photograde. Both recomended here by the members and both are great. The RedBook for info and value, and photograde to help with grading skills. I also have coppercoins guide to lincoln cents, which is rather overwhelming.....awesome, but a ton of info in one book. Hope this helps.

I got the "Coin Collector's Survival Manual" for Christmas and so far enjoy it. A lot of the information is repeated, but I have gotten some new stuff from it. I forgot the author, but thus far I would recommend it.

The RedBook is almost the "bible" of coin collecting for the beginner in this hobby. Lets put it this way, It's a must have! There are quite a few excellent numismatic books available so you will have to decide what best suits your collecting needs.

Buy the Guide Book to US coins, by R.S. Yeoman. You will find info that is not readily available anywhere else, and at a great price.

Hi Bruce, I think that all Coin Reference books deserve due reverence and good care.(lol) For anyone with an interest in Aussie coins and notes, one of the best inexpensive ones is ' Australian Coins, Notes and Medals' by Bill Myatt & Tom Hanley. ISBN No. 0 7255 1388 8. I think it may be out of print but is available from second hand bookshops. reagrds
