I'm not sure if this should be a new thread or part of the "Copy" thread. I'll let the moderators ponder that.

This is copper cast CSA Half that was probably darkened with potassium sulfide (Liver of Sulfur.) It's very pitted, even the stars have tiny pits in them but it doesn't show in the scans. The most obvious thing in this scan is Miss Liberty's Leg. It almost seems like there was some kind of mold failure. Here's a detail of it:

Miss Liberty better stay away from the short-shorts for awhile. All the areas on the obverse that are lighter in color are rough areas.

This is the reverse. Note at the west side of the horizontal bar the letter "R." Most likely to mean replica or reproduction. Which would also mean it's pre-Hobby Protection Act. So, I think maybe this was produced in the 60's as a Civil War Centennial souvenir. Note also what looks like an extended edge? It's really sticks out at the area of States. This is excess metal from the seam that wasn't trimmed.

This is the seam--(it's a plain edge) that you can see very well at the west and east. The shiny flat spot in the center, *I think* was the casting sprue.

I think there's enough info in this post to leave it as it's own thread. Thanks for posting these!
