Ok I was just going over the FMV of jefferson's, because I found a 1968-s in my fiance change. So I scrolled towards the present day and saw that the 1982-P was getting 24 cents in good condition.

So what do you all know about this? Is it a low mintage coin, or what is the bonus now to look for them!

It does have lower mintage (292,355,000) and the Blue Book prices it at $3 at MS-65. However it's not the mintage that's doing it, as even lower mintages (such as 1975 @181,772,000 or 1971 at 116,884,000) only go for $0.35-$0.50 at MS-65.

My guess is that there aren't very many of them still in circulation that are in good enough shape... or that some eccentric decided to buy them all up at auctions and inflate their price. :-)

There were no mint sets made in 1982 (or 1983 for that matter) .... so the price of a MS 1982 Jefferson is high. The 'list' price in low grades is simply a reflection of that ... but you will find ciruclated 1982/1983 Jefferson to be common.

I did a search of my step daughters piggy banks. Not too many nickels but I did find 2 1982-D Jefferson's.

I am guessing thats the same issue with the 1982 and more the 1983 quarters being high in good as well.

Thanks all!

82 and 83 are what makes putting together modern MS sets fun.

I ended up paying $27 for an 83P Roosie in MS65+ and felt like I got a steal.
