Ugh. Just got the credit card bill that includes all my silver purchases from last month (including the five 25th anniversary SAE sets I bought). A couple of hundred dollars here, a couple of thousand dollars there, and suddenly we're talking real money...

BarryQ that is a much nicer stash then you are giving yourself credit for, and it would be great to have in a SHTF situation, well done....
And don't worry about the dying dollars, as they are protected in a capsule of sorts, inside each piece of silver you own their, with a much better chance of increasing in value over the next six months to a year, then falling. No guarantee of course on anything in this world, and we all could wake up tom and silver could be five bucks an oz. again. But then I could wake up tomorrow and there could be an alien saucer in my yard, with a little green dude at my door saying greetings we would like you to come to our planet and be our leader. I am not gonna hold my breathe waiting for either of the above to happen, and if it did hit five bucks which is next to impossible IMO, as the big money would have long since jumped in an pushed the price back up at 25 or so, as greed can nearly guarantee you that fact....

[Pssssst... It's BarryG.]
Thanks! I'm not too worried about waking up and finding silver back down to $5, since I'll still have a pile of really nice shiny coins if I do. I just really hoping we don't have a SHTF situation, since just having silver to spend won't solve everything. At most, it will keep me and my family afloat longer than some, but it's not really a long-term survival strategy.

Funny stuff Barry G, as my brain moves so fast and changes thoughts so frequently, that I have this weird characteristic, where I quick scan read something, without totally registering the title of things, for example.... One of my old roommates back in the day, brought in some great chocolate doughnuts, and the box was shaped like a school bus, and this brand is VERY common in the south, more commonly in white packaging.... "I said J man I love those entertainer doughnuts!" And he was like..."What did you call them?" and I replied "That new brand The entertainers?", and he was like....."You mean THE ENTENMANN"S?" http://entenmanns.bimbobakeriesusa.com/op-main.cfmAnd I was thinkin John Q, real good Denzel Washington movie, rof ....

S'alright. I don't have much trouble with misreading words, but pronunciation gets me sometimes. For years, I thought "determined" was pronounced deter-mined (rhymes with "never mind") and "misled" was pronounced "missiled"...

And in other news... I was just checking out the newly listed BIN auctions on ebay and came across a just-listed auction for uncirculated 2002 Silver American Eagles. The guy had three for sale at $34 each with free shipping, and one had already sold within the first minute of the auction being posted. I thought about it for, oh, half a second or so and then bought the other two...

That is about two bucks better on each then most bottom pricing, so great find.... I bet the seller was shocked to see all three come off the board so fast. He will never worry about the re-sale angle on ASE's again eh, lol....

yes, but in 2002 they didn't pay that much if that's when they bought. That's all I can think of

Well, here's what the seller wrote in his description: Quote: I have been collecting coins for over 25 years now and finally finished organizing what I have. I am cleaning up and staying with investing in grade 70 American Eagles from now on. I would assume he got it at a good price somewhere along the line and wasn't trying to make a huge profit. It's also clear he knew what he was doing and wasn't just trying to sell something he found in grandma's attic after she died or something.

I added 44 oz of silver bullion to my portfolio today for $1100. If you subtract $50 for the VF 1893 O I needed for my set thats $1050 divided by 44 thats so $23 something an ounce. If I can give my fellow board members one piece of advice it would be to build some relationships with your wholesalers. Pound the pavement, hit all the shops, email everyone selling silver/gold on ebay. I have met several folks that are just to lazy to list things on ebay so they sell to me at a mutually benefical price. The only problem with this type of collecting is if you are like me your collection has no rhyme or reason, it seems like I have at least one of everything(jk). And this is probably not the place but I recently had dealings with silverhawk74 and it couldn't have went any smoother. He is a grade A class act that I hope to do business with many times in the future.

Quote: A couple of hundred dollars here, a couple of thousand dollars there, and suddenly we're talking real money... You got that exactly right, Barry. Fact is, you NOW own some REAL money whereas before you got into silver, you had none! If I had a friend who ran his personal finances like most governments do, I would NOT loan him ANY money. This is what makes turning loose of those FRNs a lot easier. I can understand how a person gets into buying silver or gold, though. I'm doing pretty much the same thing. It's habit forming! Fortunately, it IS one of the better habits to be in considering all the other things that a person could be doing with their money. With silver prices moving a little lower, I'm starting to feel that "buy more now" itch.

Yes I feel the same when the price drops. Just need to have the $ to do so. I have read that some people have cashed in IRA or 401k money to buy! I haven't done so but they believe the penalty and tax are worth it.
