I got a shipment from APMEX today that I have been awaiting. This is the $100 bag of BU 90% silver Roosevelt dimes and the 10 rolls of proof 90% silver Statehood Quarters. The dimes look great but the quarters are awesome!

It's nice to have these little niche fillers on the lower end of my collection. They should make great barter items in the event of any hard times that demand hard money.

Here is a pic:

Nice score Ed, really nice to see as always. You could open up a silver store if you wanted to, and have plenty of stock. I know that is not your plan for the short term anyhow, set on it until need be why not, as it is not as if you need the money/dying dollars. I would never sell any at all, if it were not for the fact I don't make enough cash four months out of 12 to keep the bills paid, via bar-tending on the lake and a slower winter season.....

I may toss about fifteen hundred back at some silver with my tax returns around the 3rd week of Jan, IF the price is still 32 and some change or cheaper. It is just a no-brainer, and in time I could turn it right back into more gold, train stock, whatever, as it all sells eventually....

I have nine ounces, but I don't try. Mine are from all over the World, not just U.S. They are really discards from other numismatic purchases, It's just that I haven't cashed them for their silver. Average purchase price? Perhaps $7/oz.

Nice. So the proofs came in rolls instead of the mint plastic holders? I just never saw them like that. Are they mixed states or specific? Just wondering

I did get some of my hoard in that price area but more of it at $32-37. I'm not too concerned about prices because I am pretty sure that we will look back on 2010-2012 as "the good old days when silver was cheap". It is more important to me to have the PM ounces I want / need than it is to have bought in at the lowest possible price.

Just over 144 troy ounces in this shipment.

Thanks, Hawk, appreciate the comments. Fact is, it was mostly your comments on the CCF web site that got me into starting this collection! Thanks, man.

Yes, my supply is pretty good these days and I could open a store if I wanted to do that. As you say, though, this is not why I got the silver collection going. This is my future emergency stash.

The gold / silver ratio now is pretty high at almost 54 to 1. If it were to drop back into the area of 30 to 1 or lower, I would be interested in swapping some of this silver for gold. If I did that, I would probably look at getting some 1/4 oz. AGEs.

LOL! Maybe I should have put that up as a poll question? Ha ha On second thought, Hawk, I think that you've been paying attention and are keeping track. I have made some small local buys here and there of a few coins each that I have not mentioned here. All totaled, though, it comes to 677 troy ounces. This is about 2/3 of the hoard that I was hoping to build. Once this is satisfied, it will be time to turn to thoughts of gold and perhaps other PMs as well.

BZZZZT! 7-out, line away!

Now THAT is simply awesome! I love hearing from the collectors who got into silver or gold collecting back when metals were cheaper and who have some really nice coins that they got for cheap. Excellent job, Sel. You are an inspiration!

When I placed the order, I asked that the proofs come in plastic tubes, if possible. I don't know if they would have come this way anyway or not. I really like the square plastic tubes because they stack well and are durable for long-term storage. The proofs are all different states. Not sure about the years, as that doesn't matter to me and I only opened the one tube for the picture. It is hard to believe how shiny they are! It is like they took a small mirrored disk and made it into a coin. I have a tube of proof Kennedy halves that have a similar look... VERY nice looking coins. The funny part of this is that these proof 90% silver quarters cost LESS than the pre-1965 Washington quarters in average circulated condition! Not sure what is up with that but it sure is good for those of us who like to collect really nice looking US 90% silver coins.

Thanks. I was just wondering. Yes odd they would cost less than pre 1965. Maybe they had Overstock purchased at less. One thing about pre 1965 is it is common knowledge they are 90 percent. With 1965 on you have to know to check. I did get some os the 2010 proof quaters from the mint for gifts

APMEX still has these proof quarters available and the price is very attractive. IIRC, it is about $261 per 40-coin roll if you buy 10 rolls. It's a little more if you only buy 1 or 2 rolls. Still, they are absolutely gorgeous coins. If you look at them, it is pretty clear that they are silver and not the usual copper-nickel junk coins. They also bear the "S" mint mark for "silver".

I was guessing total stash by the way, and not just the picture of the new items, and I was off 27 oz. eh not bad guess....

I have a god memory, and recall one of your recent posts saying you had mid 600's so I knew had to be in that neighborhood....

One day when silver hits excess of 75 an oz. that hoard will be worth well over fifty grand, and by that time you should have long since reached your goal, maybe traded a bit an added some quarter oz gold rounds. Can't go wrong with an American proof eagle quarter oz. coin, and I will tell ya why IMO....

Like I have a half oz. for example, and I do love it, but it does not move as fast as a quarter oz. version, esp at the price you want, as it is in excess of a grand. As we all know a quarter oz. goes for half that, and many more people have 500 to spend more often then a grand plus. With bills, kids, gas, food, rent, etc., even if you have a great job/paycheck, rarely is there that much extra coin laying around for such a purchase. Or for the average joe like me anyway....

Lastly Ed, to say any of my posts inspired you to get into silver, that is a major compliment as far as I am concerned and I appreciate it greatly, as you are easily 100 times wiser than eye, as you should be into your sixth decade. I have a feeling you would have found your way to the pm's without ever reading any of my dribble, rof...

BU 90% is the best IMO. I love my 999 but man there is nothing like BU Washingtons and Roosies.
