Hey guys, I was just wondering weather NCC are a reliable grading company as this coin graded by them as aUnc has alot of detail missing on the kings head but the reverse seems pretty good, what do you think about this? In aUnc this coin has a CV of $350 so the buying did alright IF it is graded as aUnc, thanks :) http://www.ebay.com/itm/38038766856....m1439.l2649

It's quite hard to see but at best and I mean at best, the coin would only grade to gVF. As I keep saying, overseas companies have no idea on Aussie coins. Good for the seller, bad for the buyer.

I personaly would grade this a s aVF, Certainaly not aUnc. No feathers on the emu and not much detail on the crown. My advice is don't bid on this one

Definately rates between gFINE and gVERY FINE ....... I lean towards the lower grade. Bad pic, can't see how much diamond is there. Is showing 6 pearls but can't see 7/8 with pic, possibly arent there looking are wear above them. Yes emu has wear but advance australia is intact.

Thanks for the prompt replies, will take all this into consideration and try and avoid these over grading companies.

Stick to an aussie grading company as they know what they are grading.

au50 is not aUNC (AU58-MS61 is), au50 translates to EF in the Australian grading standard.

I often trawl my through the US ebay site and see a lot of NCC coins. Every single time I am flawed by their overgrading. Have seen some junk treepences making a VF or EF grade, similar story with sixpences. ... it's always exciting to see a highly graded slab coin cheap... and then you realised it's a dud. :(

NNC is one of the bigger US "basement" slabbers. They're not a true " TPG", since they're not an independent third party - that particular seller is the owner-operator of the "slabbing company" and is responsible for almost all the NNC-slabbed coin sales on ebay; do a forum search for that seller's username and you'll find all the discussion about them you'd need to know. Overgraded coins, even by the somewhat lax US grading standards, are normal. Mis-identified coins also seem to be commonplace. The sad thing is, dealers and collectors here don't know the difference between the likes of NNC and a real TPG. One of my local dealers has NNC-slabbed coins in his display cabinet, sitting side by side with PCGS-slabbed coins. Apparently, neither he nor his customers know the difference.

Poor bugger who bought that. I'm not surprised to hear what you have to say Sap. If this particular ebay seller is in bed with NCC that really makes a mockery of the TPG idea. I try and avoid NCC like the plague.
