Hi. I collect gold Sovereigns from around the world and I have questions about the new(er) Australian gold sovereign designs and prices. My First question is about the design. Is the Proof design different from the business strike (BU) design? It's hard for me to tell with the small scans I see online.

Second, are Proof and BU sovereigns being struck each year or just in 2009?

Finally, what's the deal with the over priced secondary market on these? Anyone know of a reasonable dealer who sells these... for reasonable prices. I know they are new and sell out but they are just Sovereigns and someone asking $1K for one is crazy!

Also looking for a 1990 Gibraltar Gold Sovereign or half-Sov.

Thanks.

These "Australian sovereigns" are put out by the Perth Mint, starting in 2009. Perth Mint's sovereign page. As far as I can tell from the website, they only come in Proof (no "business strikes"), mintage cap 2500 per year, with the same design every year.

Thanks for the reply. I do think the design on the proof and BU coins are different- at least the 2009.
