Let's forget the coin first, and have a look at the description which he wrote for 1922/21 overdate threepences and 1930 penny respectively:

In 1922/21 overdate threepences, he wrote " I found this threepence in a box with other coins from a deceased estate , I dont know much about coins but a friend told me that this is sort after by collectors I do not live near a city so I cant get a valuation so I guessed the start price "

In 1930 penny, he wrote " ........Coin is Guaranteed To Be Genuine, Originally purchased from a reputable dealer..........This coin listed that I am selling is way above average & Obverse shows 6 clear pearls. This is your chance to own Australia's most famous & rare coin"

A person who don't know much about coin would spend huge mount of money on a coin, only stupid will believe that.

We shall report that.

It continues to amaze me that people on the internet boldly lie in such an obvious way that is simple to uncover... I guess some people only care about money, sad...

the 9 doesn't seem right to me, emus legs are questionable amongst a blurry pic. Actually I know the dude in china who knocks these out and he makes them with and without the replica stamped over the top of it you just ask for no mark. I would lean to his work; the American copy version is slightly different again.

thanks, after looking closely myself, the only thing that doesn't look normal is the T on threepence, but my only threepence isn't in good enough condition to compare it.

The old phrase: "found in an old box" or "deceased estate" are such sucker lines because you assume the coins have been sitting in the tin since decimalisation!... How else would they end up there. The prospect of a juicy find is therefore high.

It is disappointing that this phrase makes me think suspiciously almost immediately now.

1. The sharp angles on the date figures are the first giveaway
2. The lack of overall detail considering it's relatively unworn
3. The 1 under the 2 is too thin

For the genuine overdates I always look for the lump above the roos knee.
A telltale sign that the seller doesn't want the bidders to really see the fine details of a coin is when the supersize image is no better or bigger than the thumbnail image (and lacking clarity/focus).
Does anyone really believe that somebody owning a nicer grade overdate couldn't hop on a bus/plane to get to the big smoke with a ten grand coin?
What idiots bid over a grand on an obvious fake?
