Received my first P puck for 2016. Looks pretty good, but not a 70 to the naked eye. One thing about this one was that the capsule was loose on one side, like they just didn't push it together with enough pressure. This caused no issues, but it would be nice to have the capsule fully closed like the rest of my P pucks.

I received mine on Monday, and, as always I hate to say, one has a ding on one side and a scratch and a spot on the other. It took me less than 5s to make out these imperfections which suggests to me whoever is doing QA at the US Mint needs glasses...

Now to the return: I called the US Mint on Tuesday and they said they will send me a return shipping label to return my coin. This is news! I don't like having to pay for shipping upfront and then faxing the postage receipt to get a letter from the Treasury with a refund check weeks later - very painful process indeed...! Now it's Thursday and take a guess, I still haven't been emailed the return shipping label. I called them again and was told it will take 24-48h to email a return shipping label and the clock won't start ticking until the next business day. This means I may have to wait until Monday to get an email with a return shipping label. Are we still in the Stone Age? It shouldn't take less than 5min to issue that...
And all this because the US Mint does not have a functioning QA system...

@omxfl: Getting a shipping label emailed to you is largely a lost cause. Don't you use the website to initiate returns? You can return item under the relevant order number, and selecting reasons for return and it will self generate a UPS label when you are done.

Interesting that the first batch of Shawnee-P is around 17,000. Since it's the first release of the year, chances are pretty likely they'll issue a second batch of 4,000-5,000 pucks and that might be all. They have gone ultra conservative with mintages and availability this year, so many CUs, BOs and SOs to tease the small one-off loyal customer.

I'm not sure I have these options when I log into my account at the US Mint...?
At least not with my subscription order. But I saw the return option for another order. I guess it's a glitch in their system.
BUT, I just received the return shipping label - probably the one I requested on Tuesday.

You got lucky with the return label. I requested one last year and it never came, nor was under the order # available for return. They don't do the refunding of shipping cost of defective product anymore either or so I'm told. I was uncomfortable shipping back a damaged $1400 gold coin via UPS anyway as it might not have gotten back to Memphis successfully so I paid for Registered Mail primarily for my peace of mind.

Sorry about your damaged coin, btw. The Mint has gotten quite sloppy with their QC process in the last year. I'm sure they'll mint another batch of Shawnee, the first run lasted exactly a week, which is unusual, but they've gone totally conservative this year with their mintage levels and distribution patterns.

The pricing is still overpriced for physical government issued silver. $94.40 vs. $85.60 for 5 MLs from Provident ($17.12 ea.) Anyone buying these are collecting them and don't mind the large premium for them, as a stacker they are a terrible buy, IMO.

I spent $185 on two Kistachie pucks less than a year ago when silver was around $16/oz. Big premiums for silver rounds but now if you tried to buy two of them you are paying any less than $250 so its hard to convince me its a bad buy.

@Elimist: if the mintage was 45,000 you may have something there, as Kisatchie ended up at 42,000 so $185 for a pair wasn't bad at all. Shawnee @ $95 is already 105,000 and counting. What I am saying is for physical silver there are cheaper alternatives in the market right now and the bullion pucks are way over priced. Cyclically they are at the top of the cycle now due to popularity.

@CK: they were only on sale for a week, so like the the Saratoga they'll be back with a shorter run. Expect all the rest of the P this year to start out out with 17,000 initially and may or may not have a second run. Harper's and Moultrie may repeat history and if TR also ends with 17,000 it will become one of the series' keys.
