For the P version definitely get it from the mint, for the bullion version that was in question thats not an option

You're supposed to get an email if you're not a guest ordering on the website nor phoning in an order as a guest. Generally I get emails from the Mint when placing the order and when it ships for the tracking #. Some people love the medallic finish of the vapor blasted coins from the Mint, others prefer the 'untampered' bullion just as they come struck off of the press. My take is the more cluttered the design, Olympic, Glacier, Yellowstone come immediately to mind, the design is toned down in the flat tones of the uncirculated coin & are vastly improved from the super shiny bullion. Designs with simple elements (Hood, Acadia, Hawaii, PR) really zing in the bullion format. They feel like giant coins rather than oversized medals.

Yes that's what I thought on the emails. I always have received an email when I made an order over the phone. There have been a few times when they didn't email upon shipping. That's weird. You would think an automatic thing

Yes I do as well. I just don't buy online and my local dealer only gets these in when someone wants to unload them. The Mint is the only place I have bought from by phone. The rest face to face

I plan on just buying the BU versions of these, not interested in buying for stacking nor interested in the bullion version.
I will buy these directly from the US Mint, which is much better, shipping is less and you cut out the dealer mark up... and again I am referring to the collectors version.
Cant wait for this years releases, I don't care about the mintage, I just plan on buying them.
However, I will say this. IF I was stacking, I would buy this series over the China Pandas, no doubt about it. Yes I know they are 5 oz, but the mintage numbers are so much lower for them versus the Pandas, yes I know they are bigger but still, this is going to be a much more desired product as the China mints continue to ramp up production.

Agreed. It's like the Anti-Kruschev effect: ATBs will bury the pandas. And I agree on only getting the collector version. The shiny ones do nothing for me, somewhat similar to a plain versus cam proof of a Franklin half or Wash quarter. Or like the shiny versus RP finish Britannias. Last, whenever I think about getting bullion, I think ASEs are the wiser way to stack. |

Agreed on all accounts. I do like the look of some of the bullion ones, but I like the Ps better and they at least have some cushion for prices with the spot movement. Pandas for all intensive purposes are just a normal bullion coin now that theyre in the millions, nice designs but Ill take ASEs

I typically buy from Provident as well, but I jumped the gun when I saw that only APMEX had them on pre-sale already. My clicking fingers on the mouse got too excited I guess :) I'm sure the rest of my bullion purchases will be Provident. I'm thinking I should wait until the 16th to order my West Point ASE sets and get them ordered the same time I order the new P puck and save a little on the shipping. I need to cancel my silver proof set subscription for next year so I can pile all of these together, that order has already shipped. |

So with the subscription they just ship alone and charge the same to ship? I try to put items together at the mint since shipping is the same no matter what

@teach: that's what happened to me last year with El Yunque, ordered two from APMEX with itchy trigger fingers since they were out of the starting gate first. One average PL and one really outstanding DMPL coin came in the mail. The subscriptions used to ship for free years ago, now they charge $4.95 per subscription sent out. Doesn't make any sense or any incentive to subscribe, unless you are one of those people who never get on the Internet or get various US Mint catalogues. I am bundling the West Point ASE set with the White Mountain puck and a half a dozen assorted items. Typically I order at least five items, last time I placed a single order was for the single 2010 pucks, which had very short selling windows. Edited by Bizybackson

Out of curiosity did APMEX list an estimated ship date or just that they were available for pre sale |

They will ship White Mountain bullion starting 5/24. Provident will probably have their presale page up by early next week I expect. They are typically a few days behind APMEX in posting new releases, but I believe they also ship on the first day although their presale order window is shorter. |
