Got 2 of the 2011-W Uncirculated Eagles from the Mint today..at first, I was a bit peeved at what I thought were scratches, NW to NE, on both sides...closer examination reveals the fine lines are not incused, but raised...that's clue#1.
Then, when tiled under my reveal bulb, a distinct half-moon indentation showed, running below T & Y, in an arc...I got out my rubber-tipped tongs, and, the arc lines up with the outline of the right(viewing) wings of the eagle..reverse has random light raised lines also(too fine to pickup with my camera). Bottom line is the arc obverse is deep, curved, and large/viewable without loupe. There is a matching lighter arc closer to the T & Y that matches the arc of the lower one. Reminds me of a "Double Rainbow", so, I am naming this the 2011-W "Double Rainbow" Eagle. Last pic is high-contrast, to highlight the indentation.
There does not appear to be any clash damage near wings, so, that puzzles me(there should be some clash damage showing, on an issue this large)...BOTH Eagles are from the same die, and show matching errors. Could be related to die sink. Just unsure.
I am interested in what the members think about this anomoly.
Thanks
Calvin
