Hi,
I was wondering, are the 'S' minted coins usually in silver and are they only available in Proofs? not circulated? Thanks.

Today the San Francisco Mint now makes proof only coins in clad and silver. In the past they produced copper, silver and gold over the years for circulation.

They've also struck copper nickel (nickels) and cu/ ni clad copper for circulation. And, of course, the 35% silver War Nickels.

None of the clad coins had a mint mark but nickels had mint marks through 1970 and cents through '74.

They've made numerous business strike special issues with the mint mark and some proofs without it.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
