Is this the coin that Sid Belzberg bought on ebay for $600?

That is the story that I heard, I was wondering if someone could confirm.

It is for sale on Heritage Auctions with a buy-it-now of $181,000.

At times I find the Collectors who purchase these pieces more fascinating than the coin itself!

Actually, it is quite the opposite. The people who buy these pieces, intentionally fly under the radar. I suspect if one of the heavy hitters I know gets this piece, they will have a coin dealer buy it from this auction on their behalf...

I could understand the owner of the 1911 Dollar being shy, but what fun is that ?

Ironically, the owner of the 1911 silver dollar is anything but shy... and when it comes to error coins, he is very forthcoming and blatant about them being nothing more than "scraps of metal"!

That is interesting...as patterns such as the 1911 dollar, are not really "coins" :)...
