My point, is it looks like the better deals can be found in Palladium bars right now....

That's a good point. Pd sells for a little less than 1/2 of what Pt goes for and the premium seems significantly smaller as well. What do you suppose is causing this... a shortage of Pt metal for physical delivery? What we have here seems to be a classic divergence between the paper metal and the physical metal prices.

I think ED it has everything to do with Platinum being so RARE, more than anything else. And palladium I feel is looked at as a poor man's platinum, which is probably a semi accurate stereotype....

That does not change the fact that even though the palladium market probably does not generate no where the interest and numbers that gold and silver obviously generate, but it does have its limited market and little selling competition, on ebay it appears anyway. And then next on the ol popularity scale I would place platinum, right behind G @ S and right in front of Palladium, for the higher cost metals anyhow. Rhodium next perhaps....

And yes Pobox, that is a highly sought after beautiful 1 oz. platinum round, would be a great addition to anyone's collection. Again, a racquet ball court worth mined, so to own even one oz. of that is a special thing IMO....

Ah, but here's the rub. Pt has been very rare for a long time. Is it now more rare than it was a year or two ago? Back then, Pt was $150-200 per oz. more than gold, which is pretty typical. Today it is about $150-200 LESS than gold. This is not at all typical and when you shop for Pt coins you soon discover that they are difficult to find at a vendor who can actually deliver them now. A few weeks ago I was shopping in earnest for some 1-oz. Pt coins. Lots of places had none in stock. A few of them had a few 1/10th oz. Pt coins but that was not what I was after. It just seems odd to me that the price of Pt has fallen over the past month or two, yet it is difficult to actually find any that can be bought at the current price. This is why I think that we may be looking at a divergence between paper and physical prices.

That's kind of what happened to silver when the big drop happened in May. Many on line places out of stock or not available. The mint has their 1 oz for 1692. I know too high for what you want to pay but a nice coin!
