i have found two rather used 10 cent coins, 1901 and 1902, both with a large v on the back side. how can I determine their value?

I think their 5-cent coins, not dimes. They're Liberty nickels (AKA "V" nickels). Unless they are in a great state and little wear, they have a relatively low value...maybe a couple of bucks or so each, depending on condition.

if the Obverse looks like this then yes it is a V nickel and they aren't very expensive especially in worn condition like you describe yours are in
