Of course it is staged. Would you watch a show watching them buy hundreds of units with one after another just being filled with junk just waiting for that one in two hundred that actually has SOMETHING decent in it? Of course not. So they only show the good ones. Now as the production company are you going to pay a camera crew and support personnel to shoot all those hundreds of unit purchases so you will have the one episode for the show? Of course not. You will wait until something good IS found and shoot a staged recreation. The same thing holds true for ALL the shows like this, Pawn Stars, American pickers etc. You wait until there is something worth filming then stage the shot.

Right, but that's not to say that the lockers are being pre-salted with valuable goods. It may be "staged reality" but it's still real.

I'm always amazed (and this has happened numerous times) that the auctioneers will say that there are x number of lockers available prior to opening the gates to the facility and then AMAZINGLY only the 4 teams being followed by the show end up winning any of the lockers and without fail nearly ALL of the lockers end up being winners.
That said, I watch it and it looks like several other people here watch it also (as well as the auction huners one with Ton) which I suspect was the entire point of making the series.

Not saying the show is staged or not (personally I think all reality shows are staged). Quote: but who in their right mind would let several grand worth of coins (or as I saw on one episode, $30,000++ in brand new vending machines) lapse for a pitance of a rental fee Some reasons could be the following: Jail Military deployment Death Deported Amnesia Drugs Kidnapping coma

I love storage wars....and not just because of Brandi.
I do wish they would have shown the collection in more detail.

I believe the shows are at least partially staged. That doesn't mean storage auctions only have junk. I went to a storage auction last Friday where 7 units were auctioned. I didn't buy any of the units so I don't have any idea what was hidden in them. I did see a Yamaha 4-Wheeler in one of the units that looked to be in decent condition. I also saw 3 sets of mag wheels in another unit. Finally, I spoke with a guy I see at all the sales that bought a unit last month that had a jar with 30+ silver dollars in it.

Sure, there's a good bit of Hollywood going on there. Good stuff *does* turn up from time to time though. I know of people finding thousands in tools, guns, expensive clothing, nice furniture, etc. Of course, most of it is crap. Kids stuff, camping/outdoor stuff (which isn't always junk), old records, 8 track tapes, crappy furniture, broken appliances, etc. The only real way to make money at the storage thing is to have a store where you can sell all the crap for a few bucks and move it out. I used to do business with a guy who did this in Northern California. I got offered all the military stuff he'd find at bulk prices...we were close to an AF base. I bought hundreds of sets of BDUs, boots, jackets, field gear and the like. Lots of the lockers belonged to GIs. Therefore he got a lot of that stuff. Also a remarkable amount of drug paraphernalia, which he would destroy. They once opened a locker for auction and found what looked like a complete Meth lab. The police were contacted forthwith. So yeah, just about anything CAN be in those lockers.

There was definitely something a bit hinky going on during last night's new episode. When the third storage locker was opened, there was a white sign leaning against a round box on a chair right in front of the locker. I couldn't see all the words, but I did make out the word "AUCTION." As they panned around the locker to show all the contents, the sign had mysteriously disappeared.
I'm not saying the whole thing is staged or that the lockers are seeded with treasure, but I'm really starting to doubt that the lockers are truly in as-found unopened condition when the show starts.
Of course, it's also possible the events are shown out of sequence and the sign was actually added after the auction was over for some reason...
