What do the characters say at the bottom of the case?

Probably something like, "This bar is WAY over-priced but the silly tourists who can't read Chinese will buy ANYTHING!".

What do the characters say at the bottom of the case? Something special for the two of you? A very beautiful piece to be sure.

Also, does Taiwan hold a special meaning for you? Dragons? Or just a cool gift because the giver knows you like shiny metal things? ;)

The characters don't say much, just "commemorative silver bar issued by the bank of Taiwan." And, we wouldn't want to tip off the tourists now would we :p

I was born in Taiwan so the gift was fitting, coming from relatives who are still there. It's tradition for the elders from the family to present a gold and silver gift at weddings of the young couples. We thought we broke tradition by only having a small civil ceremony in Canada, so were pleasantly surprised by the gifts

Celtic knot nice link, I missed it first time through and was just re-reading this thread. Wow, they are overpriced, but like you said way cool for color silver coins. And the Millennium Falcon an Vader case is a real nice extra premium addition....

Would not be interested at that price, but something to look for elsewhere for less perhaps. The value of those will just continue to increase in my estimation, very collectible and double angle Star wars and silver bullion.....

I found one seller in Spain with 5 sets of each of the two kinds, and they were listed at $525 an 25 more for shipping with best offer. Looks like he ordered himself ten sets from that sight you provided at 469 a set, lol. As it is the only place I figure you could get them, from that mint in New Zealand that makes them....

So if anyone wants one of those Star wars sets, they will have to fork out about 125 bucks per oz. regardless....

Unfortunately no. Bank of Taiwan's website is woefully 15-20 years behind the times. I managed to have another relative in Taiwan order a few more for me so I can give and sell them here. They are now off-sale, though, so would have to talk to the bank directly or the post offices in Taiwan to see if they can find the unsold inventory.
