I like just about anything with dragon art, esp Pm's....
Very nice wedding gift there, and a most unique weight the 50 an 100 gram silver bars, so that one there is what roughly 7 grams over 3 troy oz.....

Very nice, Poboxw. Silver as art. I like it. Maybe not enough to actually buy it but it does look pretty nice.

Trying now to get my hands on some more for a few of my buddies. I already know it'll come with a pretty substantial premium, but even if I was a strict bullion stacker/collector, I would not mind the odd "fine" silver piece for extra $.
It is superbly well presented. A very traditional dragon design on the front side with no lettering to distract from the art. The bar is in a fitted capsule and the capsule fitted in another clear plastic bank-marked case with a magnetic removable cover; just in case you'd like to handle the bar closer up, and who wouldn't! in the red felt clamshell it first looks like the silvery dragon is floating.
We got a 10g gold bar in the same design for the birth of our baby as well. Just beautiful.

If you paid over spot for this then you paid too much. In my opinion.

Quote: If you paid over spot for this then you paid too much. In my opinion. He paid spot for the silver content. Then he paid for design, fabrication, printing, packaging, and shipping. Total cost is over spot as one cannot expect people to design, fabricate, package, store, and ship for free. Expecting people to work for FREE is totally UNREALISTIC in my opinion.

I like it! As far as paying over spot, if it's a gift and it's worth it to you, who cares? And I don't know this but I'm assuming that the spot value of silver, because it is a market commodity, at least to some degree takes into account refining and production costs. It has to. You just don't find silver bars buried in the sand. At least /I/ don't, darn it. But there are lots of "above and beyond" examples of buying silver above spot... One example - if you can find an ASE for spot you're doing very well. And let's look at this, for instance: http://www.nzmint.com/starwars/mill...con-coin-setWay, WAY over spot. Now, to me they're pretty darn cool even though they're colorized. The packaging looks nice and Star Wars is an enduring classic. Some folks obviously spent a lot of time designing and producing this. If you're looking for silver just to invest, this isn't the ticket, nor is the dragon above since they both obviously carry large premiums. But that's not what these are designed for. Unless you are investing, don't worry about spot. But don't get taken for a ride, either.

there are those of us who will pay a pretty premium over metal content for the history, scarcity, and back-story associated with a numismatic coin, and then there are those of us that value design and artistry in a "bullion" product as well.
to each his/her own I suppose.

I vowed not to do that very early on and kept that vow. This is in the professional realm and not in the family realm. There, it is pretty much the opposite... and for any number of good reasons!

What do the characters say at the bottom of the case? Something special for the two of you? A very beautiful piece to be sure.
Also, does Taiwan hold a special meaning for you? Dragons? Or just a cool gift because the giver knows you like shiny metal things? ;)
