I just received my first ten ounce silver bar and was wondering if I should leave it in the plastic or take it out seems like it would stack better out but would then tone up and not look as nice. I know it's just bullion but looks do matter.

It's 'only bullion', but you still have to present it, if you want to sell later.

I know from a buyers stand point, I would much rather have it still in the plastic.

I agree with the "keep it wrapped" comments. Do not take it out of the plastic unless the plastic is significantly damaged and looks bad.

Stack them they are only bullion. When it comes to selling the dealers will not give a crap if they are wrapped or not. The only thing that really makes a difference and most of the time it doesn't either is if it a name brand bar. Engelhards and JM sell for a small premium around here. I love the stackable bars because they stack so nicely, Scottsdale makes a nice Stacker.

Now comes the next question....... How do you protect the plastic?

I note that rectanglar plastic cases can shatter, crack, and craze when stressed.

Silver, unlike gold, can tarnish fairly easily with contact from air or the oil on your skin. The value of tarnished silver technically doesn't mean anything, but keeping is clean and lustrious always helps.

But sometimes, it can be "beneficial". I know Morgans can tone in a way that makes them more desirable for some people.

I like your 10 oz / quarter resolution. :)

I've been continuing to buy as Ag drops...gotta come back up some time, right?

And as for storage, why not keep them in the plastic? Doesn't take up all that much more room.

No, dealers won't, but an individual collector very well might. A silver bar that is clean, bright, and in great shape often will be more attractive to an individual buyer. Not that it will be worth a lot extra but it might be the kind of thing that swings a sale rather than not or makes for a trade where a bar of lesser good looks might not. Yes, some of us DO collect shiny things that look nice!

For 100 ounce bars I paint mine red and use them as bricks as I'm building a spare room to store all my gold bars in (not)!

//joking of course.
