How do you think this would grade given today's standards....also trying out a new point and shoot.

This might be in a MS-65 holder but I think this would make MS-66 nowadays. Very nice coin!
Rest in Peace

That is one beautiful Morgan.

What point and shoot are you using?

It's a Nikon Coolpix 8100....there's not a manual focus option on here that I can find and have always had issued trying to photograph coins with it.....trying to overcome that.
Rest in Peace

That's not a bad photo for a point and shoot on auto. I've been struggling with mine to the point of giving up. I'm going to pick up something after the holidays to hopefully relieve my frustrations.

It looks 65-ish to me, with strong luster and a very clean cheek. The patchy toning doesn't add much eye appeal IMO but it appears original and won't hurt the value. The obverse field marks seem minor and likely are exaggerated in the photo. Sharper focus would help but from what I can see the coin appears to have a very strong strike especially for a New Orleans Morgan. Very nice!

I see hits on the neck, enough to keep it a MS64, but the color is tough to tell in the photo. Might go 65 but I think that is a stretch with all the ticks and scuff marks, again they could be from the lighting, need to see more photos. What was the grade in the old holder?

Gut feeling is 64+ these days. Could be a 65 in-hand.

Currently graded as an MS65. The fields have a number of die cracks which may be showing up as "scuffs" in the pictures....over the date, around the nose, neck area and also in the fields near the hair. I adjusted my lighting to not show off the luster so that every little thing would show up in the pictures.....to be honest the luster is very near proof like and am surprised it did not get this designation especially being in an old holder.
