Hi. I'm a collector of British and world hammered coins. Anyone know of good dealers? Please don't say ebay. Thanks.

Most of my hammered coins over the last 10 years or so have come out of a series of postal auctions conducted by I.S Wright, in Sydney and Adelaide.

If you email them, they should send you an auction catalog. Postal auctions conducted twice yearly, for each of
Status International, http://www.statusint.com.au and
Australian Numismatic http://www.ausnumis.com.au

Both are wholly owned divisions of I.S. Wright. The parent company has about 40 staff across Australia.

When each auction is current, you can Google all items up for sale, and most lots are illustrated, to be shown on the 'net.

They are general numismatic auctions, but this is where I have found the hammered coins that are in my collection.

Wow. Thank you for these websites and this info! I'm so tired of ebay junk and want to deal exclusively with legitimate dealers.

For British hammered High end material, Baldwins and DNW in London are safe bets. Dealers such as are Ingram also carry a large and varied hammered stock - just google the name to find him. I've dealt regularly with all 3 of these sources without problem. For cheaper pieces, ebay isn't a complete waste - try looking for metal detecting finds on ebay UK - often you'll find coins being sold directly by the detectorists, bargains are to be had.
