I found a 1994 penny with no mint and there is a VERY wide space between the 9 and 4 in 1994. Is this a rare error penny because I can't find anything anywhere about it.

If anyone has heard of this could you tell me the approximate worth of it? It's in very good condition with very little blemishes, it's still pretty shiny as well. Thanks everyone!

Welcome. Just an illusion due to the stain and missing bottom stem of the 4 IMHO.

The 4 might be struck by a partially filled die or it could just damaged, it's hard to tell in your photo. Neither case would add value to the coin. I'm no expert and one might have another explanation.

Amida has it right - just an optical illusion caused by the huge stain in the area.

I have the same 1994 error. The 4 is actually touching the edge of the coin.

Considering the date is on the master hub that ALL the dies are made from, it has to be in the same position on all of the dies. They haven't used individual digit punches since 1840, so except for very slight positional differences due to die polishing the digits of a coins' date will be the same on every die for a given year.

Now from 1840 to 1909 the date was applied with a four digit punch so the WHOLE DATE could move around, but not a single digit, or the relationship between the digits. (With the exception of the polishing mentioned earlier.

It is perfectly normal, not an error.

Even if the 4 is overlapping the edge of the penny? I have other 1994 pennies that are perfect.

It's not overlapping the edge. That "ridge" you are seeing is from a worn die not the edge of the coin.
