Just bought this one on ebay. This seller has some really nice looking BU Buffalos. I needed a Type 1 for my type set. This coins is raw, so there will be no expert opinion at the end, but I would love to hear what you Buffalo nickel collectors think this coin would grade? I see some small abrasions in the hair that look like bage marks, but nothing else. What do you think?

Definitely at least AU. Perhaps one of our Buffalo collectors can tell me if a weak strike on the buffalo's head is common for this coin? That is the only area I see which is not sharp. It does not really look like wear to me though. If this is a weak strike, I'd call it MS63. I think there are a few too many contact marks on the obverse to bring in 64.

Susan, I hope it is better than AU or I will be returning it to the seller. I looked at a bunch of these 1913 Type Ones slabbed on Heritage, most graded by anacs. How they arrived at their grades is beyond me? I found an AU-58 that looks like this one, AU 50s that look like the XF-40 does in my Photograde, and I found numerous MS62-64 that don't look nearly as good? I should probably just stick to circulated type coins that I know how to grade. By the way I paid for this one a CoinValues price for an MS-62. Not sure what the Gray Sheet bid price is? More opinions please!

It's hard to tell by the pics I see what Susanlynn mentioned about the head it does seem a little round like But cantell if it's rub or weak strike, based on the rest of the coin the key is in the full horn and the rest of the coins strike and luster look good based on the photo I would agree with the MS-62 or Ms-63 Grade. the mound does not look right though..

I think so it just looks different than the Type 1's That I have The mound appears to be more prominant on mine. But I could be wrong

Susan, my hat is off to your grading ability. I received this coin today and promptly returned it for a refund. First time a picture has mislead me like that. I suspect photoshop maybe, although the seller has great feedback. You said AU, but this nickel is only XF at best. Wear on the hair, the buffalo, every high spot and little to no mint luster. It is a Type One however, but what ever was done to the image obscured the mound somewhat. Oh Brother!!!

You aren't off your rocker - the mound looked wierd, although in person it was pretty typical I am not entirely sure that the coin I received is even the one in the picture? Thanks for your help.
