1876-S Seated Half-Post Mint Damage?

I bought this coin off of ebay and I broke the golden rule. Do not buy a coin unless you can clearly see it.

Well I got it today and there is a nasty scratch going from the rim down through Liberty's nose and cheeck and down through her gown.

Is this post mint damage or possibly a problem with the die?
