Hi everyone! Does somebody know a good place to buy/order a large amount of 80/92.5% silver coinage for melt or spot value? Thanks!

Coin collecters don't melt their coins. Those of us that don't have that certain silver coin will never get one if melted.

That's not true, I collect coins and I have .925, .800 and .500 melt buckets. There are lots of common Canadian silver coins people simply do not want unless they can buy them for less than melt. When I hit a 1000 ounces equivalent of .999 I get it refined. I'm not taking a financial loss just to make other people feel good. I took the melt buckets just last year and there's already 200 or more fifty cent pieces and at least 30 dollars in there from the common years. Never mind dimes and quarters. The reality is it's not even worth the risk of losses shipping rolls to other forum members and I'm not paying EBay/Paypal up to 15% on a bullion transaction when I can get 3% at the refiners. Collectors do melt coins because if you buy enough coin collections some of it just melt worthy. Edit: Sorry Max, to answer your question, JM Bullion bars and coins in Vancouver has reasonable prices on various lots of .800 silver and .925 silver, their bid and ask prices are on their page. http://www.bullioncoinsandbars.com/products.htm

Ugly, surely can't argue with your logic! Do you mind sharing what company you do your refining with?

Sorry for the confusion everyone, what I mean`t was, I`m looking to buy from a refining company because I know some sell the coins for the silver content. I was thinking it would be a good way to get some fillers.

I explained this to Harrison last year in a private email so I didn't jump back on this. My deal is based on a minimum quantity of coin silver in excess of a 1000 ounces after refining and I get my cats done for platinum and any gold salvage I have as well at the same time. This is a twenty year and counting relationship so far.
A typical silver deal is 10% and an assay fee (~250) for smaller quantity. You can find refiners who buy and sell in your region with nothing more than a Google search, I don't know them all.

I am sorry. It just doesn't work. Search online for melt values on coins daily. Right now the silver is dropping so it's a good time to buy silver coins at melt values. Weeks ago the US Jefferson nickels were more expensive in their melt values than face, but now, it's the opposite.

If you are in Toronto, I believe that there are refiners working out of the jewelry building at 21 Dundas Square. I do not believe that it is legal to melt Canadian coins in Canada though. But there are no rules against melting US or other coins.

When it comes to the smelting of silver coins no government agency has chosen to test that law. For all intents and purposes it doesn't exist. It's like the law against walking a duck that's wearing a hat.
The law against melting US silver dollars is still on the books here in Canada for that matter.
