Hello

Completely new to coin collecting, have started only a few months ago, but have 6 silver proofs, mostly from the Perth Mint ( Famous Australian Battle series, Famous Ships series) and the 2012 Kangaroo from the RAM.

My dad also collects coins, probably has a collection of 200 silver proof coins from the past 20 years, and a few gold ones.

anyways, recently while we were going through some old collections of random coins, we found this 1963 Three pence broadstrike, misaligned on both sides about 10%.

He said it probably wasn't worth much and said I can have it for my collection. I've done some research and found that silver pre decimal coins from 60-64 were the most common mistrikes but I cannot find a value on the coin, I've seen some mistrikes go for a $100 and some go for $20.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

thanks!

Price for your threepence $16.
Someone may want to pay more or less, but I would make that a fair price.

Some people like the Perth Mint and some don't, it everyones own choice.
Mostly it comes down to what products they offer, they just don't make Australian currency coins but a whole range of world wide coins to, like Cook islands and Tuvalu.

I don't mind this I quite like some of the other coins they make I have a 2011 Love Coin 1/2oz Silver Proof Coin Cook Islands Legal Tender, and I think it is adorable (its my avatar)
But other coins that Perth Mint makes may be questionable like what's with the Transformers Tuvalu Legal Tender. Not exactly a subject a serious coin collector would be into -- but hay they got to cover all sorts of people and different collector markets.

I sometimes question some of there marketing and products they offer for the Aussie stuff to.
I don't really bother with the international coin expo stuff they make.

I really enjoyed the 1/10 oz SILVER coin on the credit card this year for the koala; I would like them to bring that back for next year. They should also expand that idea into one for the Kookaburra and kangaroo; I would totally buy into that.

I don't like the crappy bullion option for ½ oz coins that you can only get them as coin in capsule; they should also make proof option with a box and cert.

And I'm not into buying a 1oz coin on a card -- stupid -- once again a coin should be in a box with cert.

Anyway I think I have finished my rant.

Awesome, thanks alot,

I heard they were pretty common,, good to know that 3d is worth a few hundred times the face value now :)

i bought a little protective case for it so it doesn't get further tarnished.

and thanks for the info on the Perth Mint!
