I am a novice collector and I am still learning about errors, etc. I came across searching through my change a 1973 penny in very fine shape (in my novice estimation) that seems like the imprint of Lincoln is raised or sticks up much more than on any other. Is this an error with a value or is it just in great shape? Any input you can give me will be helpful.
The pennies produced in the 60's and early 70's have more"relief" to the design than later ones. What you probably have is an example of a high quality strike.
Depending upon how new a die is...you will get a nice crisp deep impression...the more it is used...it gets wore out...In any year you will see cents with very crips details and others with vague details depending upon the die stage.
That's a beautiful AU cent. I'm always amazed by roll finds like this. That coin has been hanging out in circulation for almost 40 years. I'm guessing it spent most of it's life in a drawer.
Thank you very much! I find it exciting finding coins like this in my search! I am pretty new to coin collecting but I think the bug bit me pretty hard!
