I haven't been able to find this mint mark yet. PTR star in left field.

If you have the RIC for these Constantinopolis and have the time I would appreciate it if you would let me know if it's listed there.

Many thanks

It looks like it could be PTR. So, I think it comes from Trier. Although, I'm not finding an exact match for the mint mark in exergue.

Non of my references show this mint mark. You may want to check "Not In Ric". Interesting coin.

Haha - Me too, just finished.

Unofficial? / Early unknown mark?

I considered unofficial but the design is accurate and not crude at all. Though it still could be.

Also thought maybe a bit of dyslexia with the engraver, but that doesn't explain the star to the left. As far as I can tell there was never a Trier Constantinopolis issue with a star in the field.

Earlier coins from Trier, 324-330, had the PTR mark. In 330 they switched to the TRP mark and made the Victory on Prow type from 330-335(LRBC), so maybe it does have something to do with the switch over?

That's sounds as logical as any other explanation. I have searched everywhere I know and can't find it either. Interesting for sure.

I do not have a TRP to use for comparison but my first thought is that the recent switch would make an error like this reasonable so this one die could be all there is. However I do note that there are many more Trier mintmarked coins that are barbarous than found for other mints so I'd need an expert to look at the style and say whether the look is consistent with official product.

The only thing that says unofficial to me is the font sizing on the obverse, particularly the small 'CO' at the start.

There is one other thing I found that looks odd, IMO, about this coin. The septer over the shoulder looks different from others I have seen. This may be another indicator of it being unofficial along with the font sizing bobbyhelmet pointed out.
